- History

The development of the MEDESA® Seawater Desalination started in the year 2002 through the cooperation between WT EnergySystems, founded by Mr. Tietz, Mr. Weber and the Institute for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ILK Dresden).

Both firm owners have been successfully operating in the market for many years and have kept an effective teamwork.

Furthermore both managers have been working for several years on the challenge of innovative technology in the water treatment branch.

The target of their idea was to develop micro desalination plants to come to an economical acceptable drinking water supply in peripheral areas.

After numerous investigations and the search for an appropriate partner WT EnergySystems entered intensive talks with the Institute for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ILK Dresden) at the end of 2002 regarding the development of such a desalination plant.

After intensive preparations both partners concluded a co-operation contract in the fields of research, development and implementation of a sea-water desalination plant.

At this juncture this joint research project benefits from the fact, that the Institute for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, one of Europe’s leading enterprises in this area, has created the basis for the development of a specialized, best suited centrifugal compressor for desalination plants in the last 10 years.

A goal of this plant and/or this plant’s concept is the production of high-quality drinking water in the range aimed at smaller capacities (100 to 500 m³ drinking water per diem) including a thrifty total use of chemical additives as well as durable plant equipment.
